At Alsco we design uniforms to suit the specific safety programs of an organisation, from garments with two tone highly visible colouring to night and day reflective tape.

We are also launching a new range of practical safety mat solutions to address the varying needs of personnel and different departments within your company. Our new range of mats can be designed to suit your individual safety programme with your own messages.

UNIFORMS WITH SAFETY IN MIND AT NORTH GOONYELLA COAL

North Goonyella Coal Mine is situated 135km west of Mackay, Queensland. The uniform design consultation process started early with Alsco working closely with Mine Safety Officers to create garments with a reflective tape design specific to their work safety requirements

The mine has 400+ employees of which approximately 300 go underground on a shift basis. All personnel (including management and administration staff) are in 100% cotton garments - either shirt and trousers or overalls with reflective tape.

Underground employees each have sufficient sets of uniforms to ensure more than one set of clean garments is available every day. These uniforms are serviced on a managed uniform basis with each employee placing soiled uniforms in a bin for collection by Alsco which also delivers freshly laundered uniforms directly into individual's lockers or their baskets which carry their boots and mining gear.

Top Water Users Recognised for Reductions in Victoria

Yarra Valley Water's biggest commercial, industrial and government water users were recognised for their commitment to and development of Water Management Plans this year. The plans aim to reduce water consumption amongst Melbourne's top 200 water users.

Water management plans are a significant step towards addressing the Victorian State Government's target of a 15 percent reduction in per capita water consumption by 2010. Over the past five years, Yarra Valley Water's top water users have reduced their water consumption by 16 percent.

Alsco was proud to accept the award in recognition of our current and ongoing efforts to reduce water consumption.

 What's Popular?

The continuous cloth towel is enjoying resurgence in many businesses in Australia - brought about by hygiene concerns and people preferring to dry their hands on cloth towels.

An article in the Good Weekend (June 4, 2005) by Dr Karl S. Kruszelnicki quoted a paper Hand Drying: Studies of the Hygiene and Efficiency of Different Hand Drying Methods by Keith Redway and Brian Knights (Applied Ecology Research Group at the University of Westminster 1998), They compared disposable paper towels, continuous cotton towels and warm-air dryers in public bathrooms. One of the surprising finds was the difference in the number of bacteria left on the fingertips after using each of the drying methods. Washing and drying with paper or continuous cotton towels reduced the germ count by between 45 and 60 percent. But washing and using a warm-air dryer in a public toilet actually increased it by an average of 255 percent

According to studies approximately 90% of gastros and flus are transmitted in the washroom contributing to the largest cause of employee absenteeism. Alsco's Fresh & Clean washroom services directly address and provide solutions for this problem.
